4 Major Benefits of Blogging

December 18, 2019 | by

This is a blog… about blogs. Ironic? Yes. Helpful? Definitely yes. Let me tell you why this is so important!

First, if you are unsure of what business blogging is, it is a marketing tactic that uses blogging to generate more visibility for your business while providing value to your readers in the process. Business blogging is similar to social media in the sense that thoughts and opinions are shared, and those perspectives help build your business. That is what it’s all about in the end, right?

However, blogging is more than just a platform to share your thoughts and experiences. It has come a long way since it first began. From individuals to businesses, countless people write blogs to accomplish these four main things:

  • Increase website traffic
  • Improve SEO
  • Establish Authority
  • Develop customer, consumer, and client relationships

Increased Website Traffic

Think about how people are finding your website:

  • They type your name into the search engine with the intent of finding your website. However, you must already be on their radar if they are looking for you.
  • You could pay for traffic by buying an email list, blasting them with emails, and crossing your fingers that someone will click on what was sent. (DO NOT DO THIS! It is illegal)
  • Or, you can pay for traffic by running ads, and hope you grab the attention of some new people.

So basically, if you don’t want to spend money the answer is blogging, social media, and search engines.

Blogging gives you an outlet to provide valuable content on a consistent basis. If you want to stay relevant on Google and other search engines, you are going to want to keep your website updated with new content. This is why it’s so important to develop a strategy for your business! Map out what will be blogged about and when these blogs will be posted. After implementing this plan, your audience will start looking forward to your posts, and you will see more engagement on your social media platforms in addition your website.

Write Blogs that are Relevant!

Make sure the content you post is relevant to your brand. If you are an auto repair shop then don’t blog about cooking, and if you are a restaurant then don’t blog about repairing cars. The idea is to invest into your audience, and hopefully they will invest in you.

Also, every time you write a new blog post you are creating a new piece of content that can be shared on social media. This will increase your organic social reach, and put your business in front of a new audience that may not know about your business.

Similarly, on social media, diversifying the type of content you post is a great thing! It keeps your audience engaged with what you are posting, because you aren’t just posting the same type of thing everyday. In short, blogs work closely with search engines and social media to drive traffic to your website.

Pro Tip: Make sure you are using keywords or key phrases to make your blogs more searchable and attention grabbing.

Improve SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

Now here is the big question: How do you rank high in the search engines so your website can be found? The answer is SEO! You should be doing everything you can to optimize your website to rank on search engines, and blogging is one of these necessary efforts.

First, think of how many pages are on your website. Maybe not a ton. Then, think of how often the pages on your website are updated. You probably don’t update them every week. I mean, how often can you really update the ‘contact’ page?  This is where blogs come in handy because it solves both problems.

With each blog that you write, another indexed page is created on your website. This creates more opportunity for your website to show up in search engines because it lets Google and other search engines know that your site is active. This will ultimately drive new traffic to your business!

If new people are attracted to your website and start to trust you, this will develop more leads. So let’s do some math, Blogs + Consistency = More Leads. Don’t worry if your blog is not getting a ton of interaction right off the bat. Since your blog is being indexed by the search engines, it will be able to be found for years.

To further strengthen my point, take a look at the graph that shows just how much Hubspot’s old blog posts have helped generate interaction over time.

Blogging is a long term game. The longer you keep consistent, the better the results.

Establish Authority

The best blogs answer the questions that their leads and audience have. This shows your target audience just how knowledgeable and informative you are in your industry. If you are consistently putting out content that is answering their questions, you will establish an authority in your industry and develop trust with your audience.

Think about the ways this authority can help with sales in your business.

  • If prospects find answers to their questions from your blog posts, they’re much more likely to come into the sales process trusting what you have to say because you’ve helped them in the past. Additionally, providing new value every week to your audience shows that you are an expert on multiple topics.
  • Leads that have been reading your blog posts will most likely enter the sales process with a greater understanding of what you have to offer. That makes for a far more productive sales conversation than one held between two strangers. Paint yourself in the best light, with helpful blogs.
  • If your business encounters specific questions that require a more in-depth explanation you can pull from an archive of your own blog posts. This will help move the sales process along faster, and show that you have, say it with me, authority in your industry.

Pro Tip: You can generate different leads after posting different blog posts. Try putting a call to action at the end of your blogs to start converting your readers to actual customers.

Develop Customer, Consumer, and Client Relationships

All the other points would mean significantly less if it wasn’t for this one. You want to build customer relationships, and maintain these relationships so they can tell people about your awesome business! Customers that you develop strong relationships with will most likely come back for repeat business. Blogs create and strengthen the bond that people have with your brand.

They can read about your business and your business’ thoughts from the comfort of their mobile phone and desktop. This builds trust because you are now becoming an accessible and trustworthy source of information. Your audience wants to be informed, and blogging will do just that!

Pro-Tip: Enable comments on your blogs to give readers the option to interact right after reading. This will further the conversation and deepen this relationship.

Start Typing

Don’t be afraid to start your blog plan right now. Your business is an expert in something, so focus down and start typing. It will only increase your website traffic/social media numbers, improve SEO, establish your authority, and develop relationships with your customers. It is a win-win for everyone!

Blogging is one thing that has so many benefits. Consistent and relevant blogging combined with creative marketing tactics on Instagram, Quora, and even TikTok will surely have tons of people looking your way! Find your audience, leverage social platforms, and start building your business.
